New JLC members added from social care sector
The Jewish Leadership Council has admitted new members from the social care sector, including Kisharon and the Fed, a leading organisation in Manchester created through three mergers.
Kisharon, which supports Jewish people with learning difficulties, is well-known in London, while the Fed, which provides adult and child care, traces its roots back to 1867, when the Board of Guardians for the Relief of the Jewish Poor of Manchester was founded.
The new additions were approved at a JLC Council meeting.

On a JLC statement, the following comments were released:
Vivian Wineman Chairman of Council of Membership of the JLC commented: “I am delighted that the Council unanimously agreed to welcome The Fed and Kisharon to the membership of the JLC. We have now added four new members in 2014 and are delivering on our commitment to be more representative of the community’s institutions. I am particularly pleased that our social care members cover the breadth of services within the social care and health sector within the community.”
Mark Adlestone, Chair of The Fed, commented: “The Fed’s membership of JLC will be hugely beneficial to all parties. The voice of regional organisations at a national level is crucial to effective leadership within the community. We will jointly benefit from other members’ knowledge whilst contributing with our own innovation and skill.”
Philip Goldberg, Chairman of Kisharon, commented: “Kisharon is joining the JLC at a very exciting time. The organisation has and is continuing to develop as the leading Jewish provider of life-long support for those with complex learning difficulties. At the backbone of all we offer are Kisharon’s rich halachic values which is obvious throughout our services that include excellent education, employment and supported living programmes. I am looking forward to collaborating with the JLC as I believe working together, sharing information, can only benefit the broader Jewish Community.”
