New Orthodox special needs college for Stamford Hill
An injection of funding has led to the announcement that Stamford Hill will get its first Orthodox special needs college of further education from September.
News of the college, at Jewish Care’s Brenner Centre, comes as charity Kisharon announces that it will be converting a Golders Green property into supported housing for eight young Orthodox adults with learning difficulties.
The college will be run in partnership with Hackney Community College and was part of a package of measures unveiled by Kisharon chief executive Beverley Jacobson at its gala dinner, where £700,000 was raised.
The housing development, in partnership with Jewish Community Housing Association (JCHA), sees the charity taking over a property in Montpelier Rise in Golders Green.
Three separate purpose-built flats will follow, after which the Hanna Schwalbe residential home in nearby Leeside Crescent will be refurbished.
Kisharon chairman Philip Goldberg said: “We need to bridge the gap between the available local authority funding and what it actually costs to provide these life-changing services.”
