Rabbi Cantor Gershon Silins is the new rabbi of The Liberal Synagogue Elstree (TLSE), in Hertfordshire.

Ordained by Leo Baeck College in 2019, he has led Progressive Judaism communities in Lincolnshire, Norwich, Stevenage and Manchester. Before becoming a rabbi, he worked as a cantor in congregations in the US and Canada.

Rabbi Silins first joined TLSE in December, as interim rabbi, with the now appointment made permanent after he impressed members and trustees.

TLSE chair Leigh Renak said: “In a short period, Gershon has fully engaged with the trustees in our commitment to take TLSE forward. Members of our community who have met with him either at services, or on other occasions, since his initial appointment have been most impressed by his enthusiasm and dedication.

“He is devoted to strengthening our community by sharing his enthusiasm for Jewish music, language, culture and wisdom in its many forms.”

In addition to leading TLSE’s Shabbat, festival and High Holy Days services, Rabbi Silins will undertake pastoral duties and education for both adults and young people.
