New tech club to enhance UK-Israel ties
Initiative launched by the British Embassy in Tel Aviv aims to increase the UK's market share in Israeli start-ups while helping Israelis invest in UK firms
The British Embassy in Israel has launched the inaugural venture capital club for tech companies from both countries to boost trade and forge closer relations.
The platform aims to increase the UK’s market share in investments in Israeli start-ups as well as helping investors in Israel identify opportunities here.
British Ambassador Neil Wigan said the initiative was a “unique programme” that would promote “familiarity and trust-building relationships.”
The UK-Israel Tech Hub at the British Embassy in Tel Aviv has launched the invite-only VC Club in partnership with global law firm Taylor Wessing.
The UK Ambassador added: “With the UK being the both the number one destination for Israeli entrepreneurs in Europe and the second largest foreign investor in Israel we know investors on both sides want to step up engagement.
“We are delighted to support and facilitate the growing demand via this programme which will promote familiarity and trust-building relationships.”
Research has shown UK investment in Israeli startups is behind that of other countries such as the United States in market share.
The Embassy will host online and live events for investors from both countries. The VC club will stage an annual conference to bring together members.
Amongst the UK VCs involved are Playfair Capital, Remagine Ventures and HSBC Ventures – while Israeli VCs include Hetz Ventures, Entree Capital and Ourcrowd.
