One giant leap for our hero Simon
Simon Davies fulfilled a lifelong ambition this week when he jumped 15,000ft out of a plane for charity.
Born with athetoid cerebral palsy, the 38-year-old is reliant on his electric wheelchair and speaks with the aid of a word synthesiser.
Since the age of 21, he has been living at Jewish Care’s Rela Goldhill Lodge, a specialist home providing care for adults with physical disabilities and sensory impairments.
A prolific fundraiser for Jewish Care, Simon used the jump as an opportunity to raise funds for the home.
The tandem skydive has to date raised over £5,000. Simon hopes to reach his £10,000 fundraising target as news of his jump spreads.
Simon, who won the Jewish News Community Hero Award in 2008, said: “Everyone told me I was mad doing this jump but it was something I have always wanted to do.
“It was odd being strapped to a stranger who you are about to jump out of a plane with. It is hard to explain how it felt as I have never experienced anything like that feeling before – a mix of excitement, nerves and pure adrenaline.”
