Orthodox marathon runner, and mum-of-five, is face of new Adidas campaign

An Orthodox female marathon runner has become the face of a new advertising campaign from Adidas.

Mother-of-five Beatie Deutsch joined the sporting giant’s initiative called ‘Impossible is Nothing’, as she stressed her faith as being central to her running success.

The US-born Israeli runner, 29, who is looking to compete in the Olympics later this year, took to Facebook last week to announce the partnership, saying she was “so excited”, thanking Adidas for supporting “me as a proudly Orthodox Jewish elite female marathon runner”.

This entire week I have spent reminding myself that the goal I’ve set out to achieve, which seems almost impossible, is nothing for me.  When the voices swirling in my head threaten to tell me I can’t possibly run 42.2km at a 3:32/km pace I have countered them with affirmations. When the doubt bubbles up inside, I hold onto my faith and remind myself that I’ve done the hard work and Hashem is the true source of my strength.”

She added, that “it’s easy to give up when things feel hard…when it all seems impossible and you have absolutely no idea whether you succeed. But if there’s anything I’ve learned from running, it is to stand strong and stay positive, to drown out the voices of self-defeat and hold on to faith. And that nothing is ever impossible.”

Deutsch, who won the Miami half-marathon in 2020, made a request to the International Olympic Committee for Tokyo’s marathon event to be rescheduled so she could compete – as it was planned for Saturday, Shabbat. The pandemic forced the games to be delayed by a year.
