Parents of Maccabi London U9-U18 players face £205 season fee hike
"Naturally there are a number of parents who are not happy at fees going up, nobody likes that, but at the same time neither are we', said the club's chairman
A fee hike at Maccabi London FC will see parents of children in the club’s junior section having to pay an additional £205 for the upcoming season.
The club is charging parents of U9-U18 players £700 for the next season, payable in ten monthly instalments, up from £495 the previous season.
One parent, who did not wish to be named, suggested the fee hike could drive out some families. “I would love for my child to play for the club but I think that they need to be fair to the parents. If the answer is that they will refuse to drop their fees, then I expect that lots of families will leave the club.”
“I just think there needs to be a kind of recalibration. This isn’t appropriate. It’s not fair, given where we all are financially,” the parent added.
The club’s chairman Andy Landesberg acknowledged parental concern but said the club is “only asking the cost, and no more”.
Landesberg confirmed the coronavirus pandemic has had an impact on the club’s running costs.
“Naturally there are a number of parents who are not happy at fees going up, nobody likes that, but at the same time neither are we. Again as said before we are only asking the cost, and no more,” he said in a statement on Monday.
“We have and will continue to address each Parents concerns [sic] where we need to, including providing any financial support to those who genuinely need it,” he added.
