IN PICTURES: EXODAYS brings the first Jewish boat to Amsterdam Pride
Last weekend saw the first ever Jewish boat join a myriad of colourful vessels, fancy-dressed revellers and LGBT activists at the annual Amsterdam Gay Pride canal parade.
The transgender Israeli singer and 1998 Eurovision Song Contest winner Dana International joined the boat, holding aloft a cardboard sign in the shape of the Ten commandments. When greeted by anti-Israel protestors, the singer reportedly grabbed the microphone and replied that Jewish people “believe in love, in peace and in respect for all human beings.”
Hundreds of thousands of people from around the world participate in Amsterdam’s Gay Pride every year, of which the famous canal parade is a highlight. For the first time this year there was a dedicated Jewish presence at the festivities, with the EXODAYS programme offering a full weekend of Jewish LGBT events and a designated boat. Bring on Pride 2015!
