Police drop investigation into Jeremy Newmark
No further action after ex-JLC chief executive was investigated over financial irregularities
After a year-long investigation into alleged financial wrongdoing at the Jewish Leadership Council by its former chief executive, Jeremy Newmark, police have decided to take no action against him.
Police made the decision after an external inquiry, established at the behest of the Charity Commission, blamed Mr Newmark for a series of historic financial irregularities.
Its findings were published in February. A parallel report by independent forensic accountants, Crowe UK LLP was submitted to the police, but it is understood that the police have opted not to pursue proceedings against Mr Newmark.
Jeremy Newmark was chief executive of the JLC for seven years until 2013 and stood down citing reasons of ill-health. A whistleblower alerted the JLC leaders to a series of allegations regarding thousands of pounds’ worth of improper spending, but Mr Newmark always denied the claims.
