West Midlands police have confirmed they have begun a criminal investigation with regard to a group calling itself the “Anti-Zionist Movement”, due to a social media message promoting the organisation’s launch event, due to take place on Sunday.

The “Anti-Zionist Movement” publicised its launch event in Birmingham by describing itself as an organisation that is “unapologetically anti-Zionist, pro armed resistance, upholds the thawabet [and] campaigns against Jewish supremacy.” Another post referred to its support for “Zio eradication”.

The event is due to feature notorious ‘Jewish supremacy’ conspiracists, including sacked academic David Miller, who now produces a show for Iranian state television, and Rahmeh Aladwan, who had her medical licence suspended for 15 months in December while the General Medical Council undertakes a full investigation into her conduct. Aladwan was arrested last year on suspicion of ‘malicious communications’ and ‘inciting racial hatred.’

The event was due to be held at The Old Print Works in Birmingham, but the venue cancelled the booking earlier this week, saying that it would be unable to provide a “safe space” to participants. While it is believed that the event will still go ahead, the rearranged venue has not been made public.

A spokesperson for West Midlands police said: “We’re aware of an event which had been due to take place at a venue in Balsall Heath on Sunday. We are also aware that the venue has since announced that it will not be hosting the event.

“Our officers continue to work to understand the plans of the event organisers. We continue to liaise with key stakeholders, including a meeting with members of the local Jewish community which was held with senior officers.

“We have started a criminal investigation into potential offences within a social media message which has been used to promote the event.”

On 7 October 2025, Aladwan tweeted: “7 October – the day Israel was humiliated. Their supremacy shattered at the hands of the children they forced out of their homes. The children who watched foreign jews execute their loved ones, rape their land, and live on their stolen soil.” She also posted a picture of one of the bulldozers used by Hamas to break down the border fence between Gaza and Israel on 7 October 2023, writing: “Glory to the breaking of the 17 year long illegal siege. Glory to the Palestinian resistance. Glory to our martyrs. Al-Aqsa flood. Palestine.”

Aladwan has regularly promoted the thawabet as a standard those claiming to support the Palestinian cause should be made to adhere to. In November, she posted a picture of herself and Miller meeting in person, announcing “the launch of anti-Zionist movement (AZM). The umbrella group defining anti-Zionism and grounding our struggle in the thawabet to tackle Jewish supremacy.”

The thawabet, a national charter created by the Palestinian National Council in 1968, is a document dedicated to the ethnic cleansing of millions of Jews from Israel, specifically via violent means. It lists among its point that only “the Jews who had normally resided in Palestine until the beginning of the Zionist invasion will be considered Palestinians”, and that “armed struggle is the only way to liberate Palestine. This is the overall strategy, not merely a tactical phase.”
