Primary schools to make Chanukah goodie boxes for 250 elderly people
Jewish primary school children are being asked to donate gifts that will go into making Chanukah goodie boxes for 250 elderly people across north west London.
The idea sees Mathilda Marks Kennedy School in Mill Hill team up with Amelia Homecare in Edgware to provide kosher non-perishable or long-dated food items together with other presents like woolly hats, gloves and socks.
“It’s time we give something back to the elderly in the community”, said Amelia’s Alyson Shannon, whose nursery is also participating.
“Some people can’t afford homecare, live far away from their relatives, or don’t have anyone to pop in and cheer them up, so preparing a caring gift is a way of saying we do care and we want you to enjoy a Happy Chanukah.”
Delivered during the first week of Chanukah, the boxes will contain different types of food such as tins, dried pasta and cereal to ensure there is a good variety of items in each package.
With a 4 December deadline, anyone who would like to donate are being urged to contact the team at Amelia Homecare on 020 3669 1137.
