Prince Charles to address national Holocaust Memorial service
Prince Charles has arrived at the national Holocaust Memorial Day service in central London, writes Justin Cohen.
The heir to the throne will meet some of those who lived through the Nazi era during a special reception in Westminster before joining the ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, where he is expected to speak.
He will enter the gathering of 1,000 politicians, community and faith leaders along with five Holocaust survivors and a survivor from the Bosnian War. He is expected to help them light six candles, designed by celebrated artist Sir Anish Kapoor.
A total of seventy candles by Sir Anish – whose most famous works include The Orbit at London’s Olympic Park – candles are being lit at Memorial Day events across the country and at Auschwitz itself.
