Production inspired by Russian-Jewish traditions traces couple through pogroms
The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk will be broadcast live from the Bristol Old Vic over three days
Artist Marc Chagall and his writer wife Bella are immortalised in his artworks as the picture of romance, but in real life, they walked through some of the most devastating times in history, as portrayed in Daniel Jamieson’s The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk.
Emma Rice’s sumptuous and physical production, woven with music (by Ian Rice) and dance (choreographed by Etta Murfitt), is inspired by Russian-Jewish traditions and traces this young couple as they navigate the pogroms, the Russian Revolution and each other.
The production will be broadcast live from the Bristol Old Vic over three days.
