Rabbi Lawrence appointed Kinloss minister with 97 percent backing
Rabbi Jeremy Lawrence, the long-term chief minister of Sydney’s Great Synagogue, has been overwhelmingly endorsed as the new senior rabbi of Kinloss.
UK-born Rabbi Jeremy Lawrence received the backing of 97 percent of members of the shul who voted today after a selection committee proposed the father-of-four to succeed Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis.
Kinloss chair Jon Mendelsohn said: “We are delighted that after months of work looking for and interviewing candidates, the choice of the committee has been so resoundingly endorsed. We very much look forward to Rabbi Lawrence and Mandy joining us for the next stage of our community’s growth and development.” It’s not yet known when he will take up the position.
Rabbi Lawrence, who only required 75 percent support for his appointment to be confirmed, spent Shabbat with the community, together with his wife and two of his children. He had been thought to be among the early contenders for chief rabbi.
