Rabbis honour European envoy
Rabbi Moshe Rosen Prize given to the EU Commission's Katherina von Schnurbein
The European Commission Coordinator on Combating
Antisemitism, Katherina von Schnurbein, has been awarded the 2021 Rabbi Moshe Rosen Prize by the Conference of European Rabbis (CER).
The rabbis praised her as an “outstanding example of civic involvement for a tolerant Europe and unceasing solidarity with the Jewish community”.
Von Schnurbein was appointed to the role in December 2015 and has helped the EU come up with a comprehensive strategy to combatting anti-Jewish racism in its efforts to promote a unique European way of life.
She has been particularly strong in tackling hate speech on social media
with strong legislation, a network of trusted flaggers to remove illegal hate speech, and fact-checkers to address conspiracy and disinformation.
