Radical anti-Israel preacher Anjem Choudary ‘s trial postponed
The trial of radical anti-Israel preacher Anjem Choudary for allegedly inviting support for Islamic State on social media has been postponed.
The 48-year-old Muslim and his co-accused, Mohammed Rahman, were due to go on trial at the Old Bailey tomorrow but at a brief hearing today, the case was moved back to March 7 with a further preparatory hearing this Thursday.
Mr Justice Holroyde will remain the trial judge and the case is expected to last some three weeks with Richard Whittam QC prosecuting.
The pair have already entered not guilty pleas to the charges of inviting support for the banned terror group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant between June 29 2014, and March 6 2015.
Choudary, of Hampton Road, Ilford, and Rahman, 32, of Sidney Street in Whitechapel, east London, are both on bail with strict conditions.
