Radlett musical writer wins Best Performance at Edinburgh Festival
Alexander S Bermange wins prestigious award for his show I Wish My Life Were Like a Musical
A triumphant Alexander S Bermange from Radlett triumphantly holds his award for winning the best performance prize at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe. Out of the fringe festival’s 3,352 shows, Alexander S Bermange’s show, I Wish My life Were Like A Musical, was chosen the winner by followers of theatre review site West End Wilma who were asked to vote for their favourite Edinburgh fringe performance.
“I’m thrilled,” said a delighted Alexander S Bermange. “It’s a great honour and I am so grateful to all the people who voted for me.”
Full of wonderful songs, comedy and every changing scenarios, I Wish My life Were Like A Musical lifts the lid on what life is really like as a musical theatre performer.
“The first iteration of the show was in 2018,” says Alexander, who wrote the book, music and lyrics. “Since then, we have performed it at Edinburgh five times and each year the performance changes. We keep the favourite numbers but add new songs and update the story.”
I Wish My Life Were Like A Musical has won numerous awards and has toured all over the world. It has the distinction of being the most five-star reviewed show ever performed at the Fringe with 60 top reviews and each year plays to sell out audiences at every performance.
Alexander S Bermange is a full-time writer and musician who writes for both stage and audio including BBC Radio 4. He has written many successful musicals, including Spitting Image the Musical and six fairy tale shows staged in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, yet he does not have formal musical theatre training. Having studied French and German at Oxford University, and learned piano and viola at school, he decided to start writing musical shows.
