Rocket fired at southern Israel from Gaza
Projectile fired from the Hamas-controlled enclave landed in an open area of the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council
A rocket was fired at southern Israel from the Gaza Strip.
The rocket was fired from northern Gaza toward Ashkelon early on Sunday morning, according to the Israel Defence Forces.
The rocket landed in an open area of the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council, though initial reports had said the rocket exploded in mid-air.
The Code Red warning system did not activate its sirens, which it generally does not do if the rocket is not heading to a populated area.
The attack came amid Palestinian violence in eastern Jerusalem and the West Bank over new security measures at the Temple Mount put in place after a terror attack killed two Druze Israel Police officers.
A short while ago, a rocket was launched from the northern Gaza Strip. The rocket exploded mid-air. No injuries have been reported.
