Sadiq Khan ‘proud’ to join Jewish Labour Movement as affiliate member
London mayor follows Gordon Brown in showing solidarity with party's only Jewish affiliate and describes 'a depressing collapse of trust between Labour and the Jewish community'
London Mayor Sadiq Khan has joined the Jewish Labour Movement (JLM) as an affiliate member and encouraged Labour colleagues to do the same.
In a statement, Khan said his party “has been too slow at stamping out appalling antisemitism” and described “a depressing collapse of trust between Labour and the Jewish community.”
This comes after former Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced he was joining JLM as an affiliate member in a stirring video released earlier this month.
Khan said: “I’m so proud to join Gordon Brown and others in becoming an affiliated member of the Jewish Labour Movement.
“I encourage all my Labour colleagues to do the same.
“I know it’s been an extremely difficult time for members of the Jewish Labour Movement.
“Like me, the vast majority of those within the party are devastated by how let down the Jewish community and Jewish Labour members are feeling.
“That’s why it’s so important that we come together across the Labour movement to do whatever we can to make Jewish people feel at home in our party once again.”

In a three minute clip shot at Liverpool Street Station, Brown decried the rise of antisemitism in Labour and paid his respects to the architect of the Kindertransport Sir Nicholas Winton.
Following the video, Khan wrote: “‘Solidarity means standing up with those who are under attack’.
“Gordon Brown is absolutely right. The Labour Party should always stand up for Britain’s Jewish community and all Labour members should stand with Jewish Labour.”
