Sadiq Khan visit to Golders Green was ‘a pleasure’
Labour’s mayoral hopeful said it was ‘a pleasure’ to meet members of the Jewish community during a visit to Golders Green on Sunday.
Sadiq Khan joined the Jewish Labour Movement on a ‘walkabout’, in which he spoke with shoppers and visited kosher butchers and delis.
He said it was “a pleasure” to visit the heart of Jewish London, adding that he “enjoyed meeting staff and shoppers at Kosher Kingdom and of course having a bagel at Carmelli’s”.
The mayoral frontrunner also spoke about tackling anti-Semitism if he were to be elected. He said: “It breaks my heart that there is anti-Semitism in our city and also in the Labour Party”, repeating his call for zero tolerance.
The Jewish Labour Movement said their “members had a positive and motiving morning.”
“We had a fantastic turnout particularly from our younger members. The reaction Sadiq had from the community was incredibly warm.”
Sadiq’s visit to Golders Green comes after Jewish security bosses blasted a “sickening” group of protesters who unfurled anti-Jewish banners on Saturday.
The banners read “This is London, not Tel Aviv”, in a demonstration against Jewish volunteer patrol group Shomrim.
A total of nine activists coalesced at the war memorial, with police officers present. No arrests are thought to have been made, and no other anti-Semitic incidents were reported.
