Sela looking to claim first Israeli ATP Tour win in 21 years
Dudi Sela will be looking to become the first Israeli to win an ATP Tour event title in 21 years when he takes on top seed John Isner in the final of the Atlanta Open on Sunday night.
The 29-year-old, ranked No. 94 in the world, reached his first ATP final in almost six years on Saturday night, when he beat Benjamin Becker 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Speaking after his semi-final win, he said: “I feel great [being in the final]. The atmosphere is great here in Atlanta, the crowd support was incredible.”
Looking to become the first Israeli to claim an ATP win since Amos Mansdorf’s triumph in Washington back in 2003, this will only be his second final, that ending in defeat to Andy Roddick in Beijing in 2008, and he will need to claim a first ever win over Isner, having lost their two previous matches.
Elsewhere, Shahar Pe’er failed to win her fourth WTA Tour doubles title after she and Romanian Raluca Olaru were beaten 2-6, 6-7 by Alexandra Panova and Heather Watson in Azerbaijan.
