Sela through to quarter-finals at Newport
Israeli in US for final warm-up tournament ahead of Olympics.
Dudi Sela’s preparations for next month’s Olympics has seen him reach the quarter-finals of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport.
Coming into the back of the tournament of a first round exit at both the singles and doubles tournaments at Wimbledon, Sela booked his place in the last eight, by beating American Rajeev Ram 6-3, 6-4. He next faces Cyprus’ Marcos Baghdati, third on the Stadium court, on Thursday evening, for a place in the semi-finals.
The Israeli’s doubles campaign, like Wimbledon, was though over after one match. Teaming up with Australian Jordan Thompson, they were beaten by the tournament’s second seeds, Australian duo Sam Groth and Chris Guccione, 6-3, 6-4.
Amir Weintraub failed to make it through the second round after he was beaten 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 by Japan’s Yuichi Sugita.
