Two senior Labour activists at Oxford University are reportedly being investigated over alleged anti-Semitism.
Following claims of anti-Semitism being prevalent within Oxford University Labour Club, The Daily Telegraph reports that two individuals are being probed. Both deny the allegations.
They are believed to be at the centre of the enquiry into claims of apparent harassment and intimidation of Jewish students, as reported by Jewish News earlier in February.
Alex Chalmers, an undergraduate at Oriel College, resigned as co-chairman of the club after claiming a large proportion of members “have some kind of problem with Jews” and some sympathise with Islamic terror group Hamas.
Speaking to the Jewish News last week, one of the accused said: “I was very concerned to hear allegations of anti-Semitism within OULC and I am glad the Club is taking these claims very seriously and investigating them. I was unaware of the incidents mentioned, as no complaint had been submitted prior to Alex’s announcement on Monday evening.”
The Oxford University Labour Club, which counts a number of esteemed politicians as former members, was been rocked by claims of racism – which the Labour Party said would take “robust action”.
Senior Labour MPs Ian Austin and John Mann have led calls for an investigation.
