Shomrim volunteers commended for ‘bravery’ in pursuing robbery suspects

Shomrim volunteers were commended last week for their “bravery” and “exemplary service to the community” in pursuing armed robbery suspects in North West London three years ago.
The neighbourhood watch group’s chief executive Gary Ost was joined by volunteers Shimon Ostreicher and Shmuel Danciger at a ceremony in Bushey last week, where they received Certificates of Commendation.
“We are extremely grateful for their help is securing these arrests,” Chief Superintendent Louis Smith, who presented the certificates, told Jewish News on Monday.
Video footage of the ceremony showed Detective Inspector James Rawlinson, of the Metropolitan Police, hailing the “great presence of mind” of volunteers in apprehending a robbery suspect in 2017.
He told the event that Shomrim North West London received a report on 26 December 2017 of a robbery near Beverley Gardens in North West London, in which a wallet and phone were taken.
After conducting a search, volunteers, including Denciger and Ostreicher, identified three suspects, whom they followed and reported their location to officers. “Police chased one suspect whilst Mr Denciger and Mr Ostreicher chased the others. They successfully caught one of the suspects and detained them until further officers arrived on scene,” he said.
