The older sister of a Chasidic woman who committed suicide four months ago by leaping from a rooftop bar in New York, has also taken her own life.
Friends of Sara Mayer, 31, who was found dead at her parents’ home in Borough Park on Sunday, said she had suffered mental illness and been hospitalised on several occasions.
There were also suggestions that Mayer had suffered depression after being forced into marriage with her first cousin five years ago, although the marriage was annulled several months later.
Her younger sister Faigy, 29, who left the Chasidic community and also battled mental health problems, took her life in July.
At the funeral this week, father Israel Mayer said: “Both my eyes are crying, one for each child. I’m asking forgiveness from you if I didn’t do enough for you. I saw you suffering and I tried my best.”
