We pick out family attractions happening in London this weekend to help you get out-and-about!
1. Tales from Chelm
Wondering what to do with the kids under five on Sunday? Sandal Sticks Theatre is revisiting two classic Jewish tales, Jar of Fools and The Rain Wall, at the Jewish Museum. There will be songs, puppetry and Jewish folklore. At Jewish Museum on 14 July
2. Lee Krasner
The Brooklyn-born daughter of Russian-Jewish immigrants married to Jackson Pollock made a huge contribution to abstract expressionism. Admire her portfolio from up close for the first time, including stunning self-portraits, collages and paintings from the 1940s. At the Barbican, until 1 September
3. Why the Jews
More than one fifth of all Nobel prizes have been won by Jews. Find out what makes the community so accomplished in this documentary directed by BAFTA-nominated composer and director Benjamin Till, who gains insight from Howard Jacobson, Shimon Peres, Alan Dershowitz and Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks. At JW3 on 14 July
4. Gerty Simon
Explore for the first time in 80 years a collection of 350 original prints by eminent portrait photographer Gerty Simon, who captured the likes of Albert Einstein, composer Kurt Weill and actor and singer Lotte Lenya, from her studio in Weimar Berlin. Displayed are 18 original prints and 50 reproduced copies of originals. At The Wiener Library, until 15 October
5. The Matchmaker
Be transported to the port city of Haifa in the summer of 1968 in this beautiful coming of age story written and directed by Avi Nesher. Inspired by Amir Gutfreund’s book, When Heroes Fly, it grabbed awards in Israel and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. At Reel Borehamwood, 14 July, 6pm
