Starmer has ‘constructive’ meeting with head of UK Palestinian Mission
Keir Starmer makes clear Labour's 'commitment to international law and an end to the cycle of violence', during a meeting at his constituency office with Husam Zomlot
Keir Starmer has made clear Labour’s “commitment to international law and an end to the cycle of violence” in the Middle East, during a meeting with the head of the Palestinian Mission in the UK.
The Labour leader met with Husam Zomlot on Tuesday, where they discussed “recent events in the occupied territories”, Starmer’s spokesperson said.
“Keir Starmer obviously made clear Labour’s commitment to international law and how we want to see an end to the cycle of violence for both Palestinians and Israelis,” he added.
“And how we remain committed to a two-state solution.”
In a statement shared on Twitter Zomlot , the most senior representative of the Palestinians in the UK, said he had “a constructive conversation about the dangerous situation in the occupied territories” with Starmer.
The meeting, which took place in Starmer’s constituency office, occurred after he had appeared on stage at the London Tech Week 2023 event at the capital’s Queen Elizabeth II Centre.
On social meeting Zomlot said he was “proud” of the Palestinian stand at the same conference.
He tweeted:”London Tech Show: Proud of the Palestinian pavilion.
“Beautiful and popular. Replete with stories of the success and creativity of our youth. Our quality competes with the biggest international companies. Opening global markets to the Palestinian economy is one form of resistance.”
