Stephen Fry lends support to first ever Jewish LGBT archive
Stephen Fry has lent his support to the first ever archive of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transsexual (LGBT) Jewish history, launching on Thursday 6 February at the London School of Economics.
The entertainer and raconteur urged his 6.5 million Twitter followers to “show your support” for the landmark event being organised by Rainbow Jews as part of LGBT History Month 2014.
Participants will learn about Jewish LGBT history in Britain from the 1950s to the present from the people who shaped it, from gay Holocaust survivors, strictly Orthodox lesbians, aspiring transgender rabbis and young LGBT activists.
Organisers said: “The exhibition features a variety of innovative activities including an LGBT History Soho tour with a Jewish twist!”
The launch event starts at 6.30pm, with the opening ceremony at the New Theatre including a film screening with original and never-seen-before oral history footage.
There will also be speeches by prominent campaigner Peter Tatchell, The Mayor of Camden Cllr Jonathan Simpson and Prof. Catherine Harper, Dean of Portsmouth University Creative Faculties.
