Succot celebrations from around the world to be streamed this Sunday
World’s Biggest Such Hop will include festivities from 11 countries across six continents with numerous UK and international partners
Succot celebrations from 11 countries across six continents will be streamed live as part of the World’s Biggest Succah Hop.
From Jamaica and Tanzania to Israel and Argentina, British Jews can see how the festival is marked around the world on Sunday.
Co-hosted by the Commonwealth Jewish Council’s (CJC) Clive Lawton and the Times of Israel’s Sarah Tuttle-Singer, the broadcast on 26 September will take place at 5pm.
It will be produced by Hampstead Synagogue, Beverley Hills Synagogue, the CJC, The Jewish Agency and United Synagogue.
Hampstead shul’s Gabriel Herman said: “Thousands of people tuned in to the Succah Hop last year and so we are bringing it back by popular demand. We invite everyone to explore the unique cultures, customs and traditions of our global Jewish community in a celebration of achdut (unity) and simcha (joy).”
Robby Hoffman, General Secretary of the Commonwealth Jewish Council, said: “Although lockdown is lifted here in the UK, many of the Commonwealth communities we are visiting are still experiencing the challenges of another Succot in isolation. We hope that by bringing people together virtually we can help everyone have an uplifting and meaningful Succot.”
