Tech giant Nvidia raises $15m for Israelis impacted by the war

Thousands of employees across the world donate, helping to make it the largest raised in the computing company's 30-year history

Global technology firm Nvidia, the world’s largest chip company, and its employees are donating $15m to non-profit organisations – the largest donation raised by Nvidia in its 30 years of operation.

Thousands of employees from more than 30 countries donated a total of $5 million, which the company matched and doubled to $10 million under a special campaign launched to help those affected by the war.

Gideon Rosenberg, Nvidia’s deputy general counsel, said: “We are proud to see such broad support from Nvidia families in Israel and around the world, and are grateful for their prayers and hope for the return of our colleague Avinatan Or, and the other hostages from Hamas captivity.

“We are truly inspired by the genuine care of our employees around the world.”

Funds are reportedly being deployed to organisations including Asor Fund (JGive), American Friends of Magen David Adom, Doctors Without Borders, Friends of United Hatzalah, IsraAID (US) Global Humanitarian Assistance, Jewish Agency for Israel, World Central Kitchen and Zaka.

Nvidia also said it had donated hundreds of computers to families evacuated from the north and south of Israel, and provided thousands of hot meals from its Yokneam office cafeteria.

Headquartered in the US,  Nvidia employs around 3,200 people in Israel. The company’s value as of this month (December) is around $1.2 trillion, making it the largest chip company in the world.

The company joins other major global companies that have pledged their support to Israel since 7 October, including  Google and Microsoft, with UBS, Goldman Sachs and investment firm Jefferies among those that have launched their own fundraising initiatives.
