Teens arrested after Shomrim chase to face criminal damage charges
Three youths, all 16-years old, were arrested following a pursuit by Jewish neighbourhood watch group and will appear in court this month
Three teens arrested after Jewish neighbourhood watch volunteers gave chase in Golders Green are to appear in court later this month, charged with criminal damage.
The three 16-year olds were caught by police after a car was reported being damaged on Armitage Road, which the Met describes as a “burglary hotspot”.
A Met spokesman said officers were called to the scene at 11pm on Wednesday evening and that “members of the Shomrim assisted police in detaining the suspects”. They were arrested and will appear on bail at Willesden Youth Court on 28 December.
Two of the suspects have been charged with “going equipped and criminal damage,” while a third has been charged with criminal damage.
Shomrim, which also has a branch in Stamford Hill, said its north-west London branch sent eight volunteers to the site of the car, the first arriving within 45 seconds of the first reports of damage.
The organisation said five suspects ran off in different directions, with three chased and detained, while a police dog unit was dispatched to search for the other two.
Barnet Police tweeted that Shomrim volunteers alerted police, followed the suspects and relayed their whereabouts to officers, who gave chase on foot.
Earlier that evening, Shomrim volunteers had attended a training event given by Uriel Goldberg of Magen David Adom (MDA), who advised what to do in the first few minutes after a major incident.
