Three people have been charged in connection with an arson attack that destroyed four ambulances belonging to the Hatzola volunteer Jewish emergency service in north London, the Crown Prosecution Service has announced.

Hamza Iqbal, 20, Rehan Khan, 19, and a 17-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, each face charges of arson with intent to damage property and being reckless as to whether life would be endangered.

The charges relate to an attack on ambulances belonging to Hatzola, a volunteer-led ambulance service, which were set ablaze in the Golders Green area in the early hours of Monday, 23 March.

Frank Ferguson, Head of the CPS’s Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, said prosecutors had determined there was sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and that it was in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.

The CPS said it had worked closely with the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command throughout the investigation.

The three defendants are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 4 April.

The CPS warned that criminal proceedings against the defendants are now active and cautioned against any reporting, commentary, or sharing of information online that could prejudice the case.
