Tony Robinson leaves Labour over antisemitism, Brexit and ‘sh*t leadership’
The 72-year old actor, comedian and TV presenter declared his 45-year relationship with the party to be over in a Friday afternoon tweet
The actor and TV presenter Sir Tony Robinson has said he is resigning his membership of the Labour Party after 45 years.
Robinson, 72, a children’s author who became known for playing Baldrick in the TV series ‘Blackadder,’ has been involved in left-wing politics for decades and once sat on Labour’s National Executive Committee.
In a tweet on Friday he wrote: “I’ve left the Labour Party after nearly 45 years of service at Branch, Constituency and NEC levels, partly because of its continued duplicity on Brexit, partly because of its antisemitism, but also because its leadership is complete sh*t.”
Robinson, who found out that he had Jewish ancestry in 2006, has campaigned for Labour throughout his career and most recently supported a second referendum, condemning the party for not backing another so-called ‘people’s vote’.
