Top educator named King Solomon head
One of the UK’s leading educators has been named headteacher of King Solomon High School.
Jo Shuter, who was named headteacher of the year at the 2007 Teaching Awards and appointed CBE in 2010, will take up her new position in September following the departure of current headteacher, Spencer Lewis.
Shuter is known for transforming Quintin Kynaston academy in St John’s Wood into an ‘Outstanding’ school as noted by Ofsted on two occasions. She quit the role earlier this year after a report claimed she presided over the misuse of public funds. Despite receiving the support of the academy’s governing body, she resigned after claiming her position had been made untenable.
Shuter said: “I feel privileged to be joining King Solomon High School, which I believe has a fantastic future. I am very much looking forward to getting to know the pupils, staff and parents.”
Chair of Governors Stephanie Sollosi said: “We are thrilled Jo Shuter is to join us – her track record in achieving outstanding educational results is inspirational.”
Meanwhile, Year 12 students at King Solomon High School have been awarded certificates for their commitment to the school’s peer mentoring scheme.
It involves students from the sixth form volunteering to be buddies once a week throughout the year with younger students.
Deputy head teacher Rabbi Jeremy Bruce, said: “We are extremely proud of our sixth formers who have willingly given of their free time to be Peer Mentors. Their commitment and enthusiasm has helped numerous students and had a positive impact on the whole King Solomon High School community.
