Family’s tribute to ‘our beautiful’ Liora
The former JFS pupil from Hendon, who had been critically ill in hospital for more than a week, died on Saturday
Community members have been laying tefillin and putting up mezuzahs in just some of several efforts to do mitzvahs after former JFS pupil Liora Rosenberg passed away.
Ms Rosenberg, the 20-year-old who was hospitalised after a bleed to the brain and pneumonia, died last Saturday, and mourners have filled a Facebook page, Do a mitzvah in the name of Liora, with good deeds they have been doing in her honour.
Videos and comments on the Facebook page show a mezuzah being installed and students attending local minyans.
She had been critically ill in hospital for more than a week, and died on the weekend – five days after she was placed on life support in the Royal London Hospital.
The family has also set up a JustGiving page asking people to “do a mitzvah” and raise money for ambulance charity Hatzola.
The page says: “Liora’s dream before she passed was to help raise money to buy an ambulance for Hatzolah to replace the one that recently crashed.”
They are looking to raise £100,000 and have so far reached almost £27,500.
The family has been supported by Hendon United Synagogue, which has held tehillim gatherings and special prayers.
Hendon Rabbi Mordechai Ginsbury, said: “We are doing whatever we possibly can to support Liora’s family in any and every way at this tragic time. So many good and caring people just want to help and show their support and it has been remarkable to see how the community has pulled together on social media and in the real world.
“This has been a great source of strength, encouragement and comfort to Liora’s parents Lauren and Stuart and their family as they have had to deal with such a deeply painful set of circumstances.”
