Tributes to pioneering ‘thrash metal’ journalist
Tributes were paid from across the world of heavy metal to former Dollis Hill synagogue member Malcolm Dome
Music journalist Malcolm Dome, credited with coining the term ‘thrash metal’, has died, aged 66.
Dome rose to prominence in the 1980s after the publication of his book Encyclopedia Metallica, and became a respected journalist in the world of heavy metal, writing for Record Mirror, Kerrang and Metal Hammer.
Artists including Ozzy Osbourne, Lars Ulrich and metal band Iron Maiden paid tribute. Drummer Ulrich was “extremely sad” to hear the news.
Ulrich, who founded the heavy-metal band Metallica after reportedly being inspired by Dome’s book title, paid personal respects on social media. The drummer said he was “extremely sad” to hear of his passing.
“Not only was he an incredible talent who helped guide my relationship with heavy music. But he was also a great person. Today I’m thinking of the fun, memorable times we spent together back in the day.”
