University information evening for sixth formers held by UJS and UJIA

One hundred prospective Jewish university students and parents gathered at the London Jewish Cultural Centre to probe a panel of student leaders about applying for university.

A joint Union of Jewish Students (UJS) and United Jewish Israel Appeal (UJIA) information evening engaged with students on a range of key campus issues.

The panel included representatives of UJS, the Community Security Trust (CST) and Jewish Chaplaincy, as well as university Jewish Society Chairs from Coventry, Middlesex, UCL and Birmingham.

Issues such as accommodation, exams on Shabbat, J-Soc size, and anti-Semitism were all covered, to offer the students a glimpse of challenges they may have to face.

UJS President, Ella Rose said: “It’s amazing for people to see what’s out there and see the support they can get from organisations, not just UJS, but Chaplaincy and CST.

“I’ve been incredibly lucky where I’ve gone on from J-Soc and hopefully, other people can too”.

Debra Green, UJIA Schools Informal Education Manager, who jointly organised the event, commented: “Preparing our young people to go to campus is a major priority for UJIA.

“We want every Jewish student to feel equipped and to have the best time possible, Jewishly and as a member of the wider student community.”

The event took place on February 3.
