UK political leaders condemn shock Hamas attacks, stressing Israel’s ‘right to defend itself’
Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer among UK political leaders to issue strong condemnation of Hamas in response to the massive aerial and ground attack from the Gaza Strip
Rishi Sunak has expressed his shock over “attacks by Hamas terrorists against Israeli citizens” adding:”Israel has an absolute right to defend itself.”
Responding to the unprecedented attack on the Jewish state by the Islamist terror group, the prime minister said:” I am shocked by this morning’s attacks by Hamas terrorists against Israeli citizens.
“Israel has an absolute right to defend itself.
“We’re in contact with Israeli authorities, and British nationals in Israel should follow travel advice.”
Labour leader Keir Starmer also responded to the escalating situation by saying:”I utterly condemn the ongoing attacks on Israel and her citizens.
“There is no justification for this act of terror which is being perpetrated by those who seek to undermine any chance for future peace in the region. Israel has a right to defend herself. ”
Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey added:”Horrifying scenes in Israel and Palestine this morning. Liberal Democrats fully condemn Hamas. This terrorism must cease. Israel has a right to defend itself.”
The UK’s foreign secretary James Cleverly said:”The UK unequivocally condemns the horrific attacks by Hamas on Israeli civilians. The UK will always support Israel’s right to defend itself.”
Meanwhile shadow foreign secretary David Lammy added:”Utterly appalled by the news from Israel. There can be no justification for terrorism. We condemn Hamas’ attacks unequivocally and stand in solidarity with Israel at this terrible time.”
