UK trade commissioner leads 30-strong delegation to Israel in support of free trade deal
Chris Barton and UK trade envoy Lord Austin were amongst the group who met with Israeli businesses, regulators and policy makers.
The government’s trade commissioner Chris Barton has taken a 30 strong delegation from the UK financial services sector on an intensive visit to Israel to meet with businesses regulators and policy makers.
The delegation brought together a leading group of associations, iincluding UK Finance, City UK and CBI, fintech’s such as Revolut and Wise, and major global players such as Citi and the London Stock Exchange Group.
Barton CMG was joined by the UK’s Trade Envoy to Israel Lord Ian Austin, on the visit in support of the UK-Israel free trade agreement (FTA).
The delegation, for the three day visit, showcased the expertise which British firms offer and displayed the groundswell of support amongst UK services firms for an upgraded free trade agreement with Israel.
The Department of Internation Trade said it “greatly values the insight and advocacy that UK stakeholders were able to provide. ”
In parallel to the delegation, UK and Israeli negotiators held technical discussions on Financial Services as part of the FTA negotiations.
Both sides are working towards a second round of negotiations in due course.Adam Gagen, Global head of Govt Affairs, Revolut said:“The UK and Israel are both leaders in fintech, and a new UK-Israel FTA will supercharge opportunities for innovative players in both countries.
“The senior UK Government backing for this Delegation has clearly helped to accelerate the expansion of UK companies looking to enter Israel.
“Revolut is a strong supporter of the UK Government’s ambitious plans to create global champions in finance and tech, and securing new FTAs which give UK companies better and faster access to third countries is key to making this plan a reality.”
