Vice-chair of Jewish Labour Movement to fight for Hendon seat
MIke Katz is selected to be the party's candidate for hendon, where he'll seek to to unseat Tory incumbent Matthew Offord
A vice-chair of the Jewish Labour Movement will be the party’s candidate for Hendon.
Mike Katz, who stood as a London-wide candidate at the last London Assembly elections, served as a councillor in Kilburn from 2010-14.
His platform will include opposing a “far right” Brexit in a seat currently served by Tory Matthew Offord, the incumbent MP, who backed Britain’s exit from the European Union.
Katz, who won a standing ovation for a speech on tackling anti-Semitism in Labour at the last party conference, said it was a “huge honour” to be selected to fight the seat on which his “It’s a huge honour to be selected to fight the seat in which his mum grew up.
The candidate, who works in public policy and communications, said: “To Jews who are Labour-leaning, but are struggling with the idea of voting Labour now, I say that we don’t solve this problem by running – in the words we said at Cable Street: we stay, we stand, we fight. I’m determined to win this fight, and I’ll be even better placed to do that as a Labour MP.”
Offord, who won a second term at the last election, will be defending a majority of over 3,700.
