We’re holding out for a new Community Hero!
Do you know a hero in Anglo-Jewry’s midst?
Someone who has performed an extraordinary act of kindness over the past 12 months or worked tirelessly over many years to help those in need?
The Jewish News’ annual Community Hero, in partnership with Mitzvah Day, is looking to shine a light on such heroes.
The eventual winner will follow in the footsteps of last year’s recipient Adam Cramer, who dived into treacherous waters to save a teenager only weeks after life-saving surgery.
Previous winners include mum-of-two Sandra Hamilton, whose charity Cure Cancer at UCL raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for research.
2013’s winner John Coleman scooped the title at the age of 85 for his voluntary work including mentoring young offenders and working with Samaritans.
Our finalists will be revealed next month before the winner is announced at the conclusion of Mitzvah Day on 22 November – when thousands of people give their time to support good causes across the country.
This year’s judging panel features Ilford North MP Wes Streeting and Alison Rosen, CEO of the S&P Sephardi Community.
Mitzvah Day founder Laura Marks – who will also join the panel with Jewish News editor Richard Ferrer – said: “If you know somebody who is the lifeblood of our community and you feel they should finally be recognised, then it’s time to get nominating.”
Ferrer said: “We are delighted to again be working with Mitzvah Day to celebrate the tireless efforts of our community’s stars.”

The deadline to nominate is the 2 November.
