Wimbledon 2017: Giorgi suffers third round exit
Italian beaten by French Open winner in straight sets.
Camila Giorgi saw her Wimbledon campaign ended on Friday afternoon.
Having surpassed expectations in reaching the third round, Latvian Jelna Ostapenko, ranked 13 in the world, was a step too far as she wrapped up the match 7-5, 7-5 in 81 minutes.
Giorgi, who was the last remaining Italian left in the singles draw, had found herself 5-3 up in the first set, though the Latvian showed her class to turn it around to go ahead in the match.
Ostapenko also found herself serving to stay in the second set, though having broke Giorgi in the 11th game, then had the opportunity to serve out for the match – which she did.
Jewish interest at SW19 now lies with Dudi Sela, who takes on Grigor Dmitrov on Saturday. Yshai Oliel is also taking part in the junior singles competition, where ranked 12th, he faces American Alexandre Rotsaert.
