Largest Yom HaShoah event planned at Barnet Copthall Stadium
An unprecedented level of support has helped launch commemoration plans for this year’s Yom HaShoah at Barnet Copthall Stadium as 95 community organisations backed the campaign.
This year’s event coincides with the date of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Bergen Belsen by British forces falls on Erev Yom HaShoah.
Neil Martin continued: “As Survivors grow fewer in number, this year must be the year the UK Jewish community pledges to keep the memory alive.”
The Sunday 19 April event, which was being called ‘the last of the big anniversaries,’ includes the closing ceremony of the 70 Days for 70 Years Campaign.
“Our aim is bring together the largest gathering of the Jewish community to remember together the loss of six million and to pay tribute to the Survivors and Refugees for the remarkable contributions they have made,” said Martin.
The phenomenal level of support includes all synagogue bodies, as well as survivor, refugee and ex-service organisations, charities, youth groups, news groups (including the Jewish News), schools and Israel advocates.
Children from ten Jewish primary schools will form a choir of over 400, while guest speakers and performers from around the world will also mark the date.
