Yavneh College announces a bulge class for 2026
Hertfordshire school increases its Year 7 intake in September from 150 to 180 pupils
Yavneh College in Borehamwood is offering an additional 30 places for incoming Year 7 students.
The decision by the school, rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2023 and situated in one of the largest Jewish communities in the country, comes in response to the huge ongoing demand for Jewish state-aided secondary school places.
It’s hoped the move, which will likely come as a relief to many parents, will have a positive effect on the wider provision of places.
Executive headteacher, Mr Spencer Lewis, said: “we are pleased to be able to help families through these extra school places for September 2026 by providing them with the first-class general and Jewish education of which we are so proud at the Yavneh schools.”
Rabbi David Meyer, chief executive of Jewish schools network PaJeS, told Jewish News: “We are seeing unprecedented demand for Jewish school places – driven partly by changes affecting independent schools, but most worryingly by the rising antisemitism that families are experiencing. In this context, we are very grateful to Yavneh College for taking such assertive action. They have clearly appreciated the challenges the community is facing and are working to meet the needs of parents and children with this decisive response.”
