Young Families Programme Director

Location: The Spanish & Portuguese Synagogue, Lauderdale Road, W9

Working Hours: Part time (0.5), hours are flexible. Please note that this role will require work on evenings, weekends – compulsory for Chaggim and weekend family events. Initially on a one year contract. We would very much welcome a married couple or family who are keen to embrace the community and children.

Annual Salary: £15,000

Benefits: Large 3 bedroom apartment in Maida Vale, attached to the synagogue (suitable for a family) 20 days annual leave (excluding Statutory Bank Holidays) – pro rata. + Pension.

Our Vision:

We are seeking to provide our children and the families of Lauderdale Road with a programme of events that will both educate and inspire our children in Jewish spiritual, cultural and social life.

Scope of Role:

The role will involve engaging with children (ages 2-13 years), to provide a comprehensive programme for the forthcoming year based around Shabbat Services, Chaggim and weekend social events. General duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Developing, presenting, implementing and supervising youth programming and informal educational curriculum;
Planning children’s service on Shabbat and providing support to parents as well as organising the parent and teenager rota;
Arranging educational and imaginative events for key Chaggim as agreed with the Line Management (e.g. Simchat Torah, Purim);
Arranging social events/activities for different age groups (e.g. movie nights, minor Chag events) – all logistical elements;
Developing an advisory board of parents and other Lauderdale Road members with whom the Youth Director collaborates. We would also request that the Youth Director reaches out to new members on direction from Line Management;
Developing and preparing a budget for the programme in collaboration with Line Management, maintaining and adhering to that budget, and keeping accurate and comprehensive records;
Developing and negotiating new programmes and partnerships;
All the marketing required for events;
Promotion of family membership model;
Participating in monthly meetings with Line Management to review the programme and facilitate new ideas; and
Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by Line Management or other designated senior staff/undertaking such other duties that occasionally fall within the purpose of the post.

Person Specification:

Substantial knowledge and understanding of the Jewish Community, Judaism and Jewish Values;
Previous experience of youth leadership and / or programming;
Committed to the values of Orthodox Judaism;
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
Proven experience as a proactive team member, contributing to the success of the wider team and organisational goals;
Passion to build family communities and work with children; and
Creative, energetic and pro-active.
Ability to use marketing tools e.g. WordPress would be desirable
