Young left-wing Jews canvass for Labour candidate seeking to oust Boris Johnson
30 activists from campaign group Jews Against Boris went door-knocking for Ali Milani in Johnson’s west London seat of Uxbridge and South Ruislip
Dozens of left-wing Jewish activists have descended on Boris Johnson’s constituency hoping to help the local Labour candidate unseat the prime minister.
A total of 30 activists from campaign group Jews Against Boris went door-knocking for Labour candidate Ali Milani in Johnson’s west London seat of Uxbridge and South Ruislip on Sunday.
In the last election, Johnson saw his Conservative majority halved and Milani now needs a five percent swing to take the seat, causing what would be an enormous upset in British politics, with no serving prime minister ever having lost their seat in an election.
Rivkah Brown, one of the Jews Against Boris canvassers, said: “My personal relationship with the Labour Party has been complicated by the events of the last few years, and I understand why many in my community feel unable to vote for them.
“However all racisms are interconnected and Jews cannot be safe while other minorities are under threat. Boris Johnson has incited a hateful and divisive politics that endangers all marginalised people. That is why being part of a group of British Jews who show solidarity with other communities is so important at this election.”
She added that she was “proud to campaign for the working-class Muslim immigrant who is – in an incredible act of poetic justice – going to defeat our born-to-rule Islamophobic prime minister”.
Earlier this month, Brown was one of the Na’amod protesters who sought to disrupt the Zionist Federation’s annual Balfour Lecture, claiming it was an attempt to “defend the occupation” and “whitewash” the conduct of the Israeli army in Gaza.
