The neighbour of one of the two men who died in the Heaton Park terror attack has described Adrian Daulby as “one of the most fantastic men I ever knew in my life”.

Abdul Rahimi had lived alongside Mr Daulby for more than 20 years. In an emotional interview with Sky News, Mr Rahimi said: “He was the best guy I had ever seen in my life”.

He had been “a great neighbour” who was generous with both time and money, Mr Rahimi said. “He would give money so the children in the street — including my children — could buy toys and books. He would play with the kids, with water pistols. Every Christmas, even if he was going to be away, he was the first to leave toys for my kids outside my door,”

Mr Rahimi had been working in Skegness during Thursday but received calls from neighbours saying there was a lot of police activity near his home. “Then, in the evening, I got a call from my wife to say. Adrian is missing.”

The couple thought that Adrian Daulby had gone to one of his brothers, but that sadly proved not to be the case. On Friday morning Mr Rahimi got a note from another neighbour saying Adrian Daulby’s name had been mentioned on the news.

Shaking his head, Mr Rahimi said he and Mr Daulby had been together on the day before the attack, when they both fed a local cat. “I feel very bad”, Mr Rahimi said. “He really was a fantastic guy”.
