Rabbi Greg Alexander has been appointed as the next senior rabbi at Golders Green-based Alyth synagogue.

Alexander, who takes up the role in July, is currently rabbi at Temple Israel in Cape Town.

Alyth chair of trustees Gary Lipman said: “I look forward to seeing him work in close partnership with our wonderful clergy team; together, their combined talents will ensure our community continues to flourish and grow.”

Adding that he is “deeply honoured” to be taking up the position, Rabbi Alexander said: “Alyth’s commitment to courageous, compassionate Judaism and engaging community life speaks powerfully to me. I cannot wait to begin this next chapter together.”

The north London synagogue has just completed a £3.5m refurbishment project, including new prayer, study and communal areas – in time for its 90th anniversary on the site.
