JVL antisemitism training cancelled as it was ‘not authorised’ by party

The activist who described the Jewish Labour Movement as a “fifth column” will not be training members on antisemitism, Jewish News has learned.
Glyn Secker, the secretary of Jewish Voice for Labour, was scheduled to train Reading and District Labour members on Jew-hate at an event later this month.
But the event was, according to the local CLP, not agreed by the party and has now been cancelled.
“We are deeply saddened and shocked that this event has been advertised publicly on behalf of the Reading and District Labour Party,” the Labour CLP said.
“We would like to make it clear that this event has not been authorised or agreed by our party and will not receive any money from party members.
“We have been working with the appropriate people to get this event cancelled in our name and to have the matter investigated further since it was brought to our attention.
“Labour is the party of equality and Reading is a town rich in diversity. We are proud of our record of standing up to hate speech and we have campaigned against antisemites and fascists alike.”
This comes after Secker addressed some 2,000 protesters at a pro-Palestine demonstration on Saturday.
His remarks drew criticism from Jewish leaders, with Board of Deputies President Marie van der Zyl saying: “Glyn Secker speaks for a tiny organisation whose odious views are representative of no-one but themselves.”
