Baroness Ros Altmann tackles ageism in job search market
'50 is just the second half of your life': Life peer is guest of honour for community employment champion Resource
Former Government pensions advisor Baroness Ros Altmann this week championed older members of the workforce at an event hosted by Resource, the Jewish community’s dedicated employment support organisation.
Held at its north London offices, the interactive workshop brought together 30 attendees over the age of 55, all eager to learn strategies for navigating employment later in life.
Emphasising that “older workers are complementary to younger workers,” Baroness Ros Altmann insisted: “50 is just the second half of your life. Finding a job over 50 can be challenging, but it is absolutely possible – do not give up.”
The event also marked the launch of Resource’s new Ageless Career Programme: ‘Experience that Works’, part of a three-year initiative to support over-55s back into employment.
Recent research by think tank Demos found that many over-50s left the workforce during the pandemic, with more than 800,000 older people currently out of work but seeking employment.
- Resource is a Jewish employment charity set up in 1992, currently supporting 1,000 people a year – from all backgrounds.
